"QUINOA"..... some of you may be familiar with this "super-grain" and some of you may not. here's a few things i've discovered about this awesome food :D #1 - its pronounced "keen - wah".... not "key - no - ah". i have been mis-pronouncing it for the past few years.... for shame. #2 - it is not a grain, like many people believe. it is actually the seed of a leafy plant! #3 - you need to rinse it just like rice, to get the residue off AND pick through them BEFORE you rinse... see that debris up there?? that is all the crap i picked out of the batch i was cooking. if you don't sort through it, you're probably going to crunch down on some rocks, twigs, or other crap that you don't want to eat! #4 - you can eat Quinoa as a savory dish OR a sweet one! just like oatmeal, you can add things like honey, sugar, fruits, etc. to eat it for breakfast OR add in some chicken broth and veggies and things to make it as a side for dinner. when i prepared it, i decided to go the savory route. here i've cooked it in my rice cooker with some chicken broth, green bell peppers, and chickpeas. delicious! use it as a nice substitute for rice! you'll be kind of surprised at how much they will swell in size.... it was crazy.
Have fun cooking everyone! :D

i did not make those cookies.... but i want to!
hopefully, when i get off my butt, and get into the groove of baking (which kind of takes a lot of effort on my part), then i'll attempt to make them. but until then - you can try! Cinco De Mayo is coming up, and if you're not out boozing with your friends, you can try to make these pinata cookies. they even have goodies inside when you bust them open! clever! the recipe, and instructions can be found here: PINATA COOKIES |
