food is no longer a stationary thing. you can't just sit around and have a meal; it is now a get up and go type of thing! lunch wagons are not a new thing. they've been around for as long as anyone can remember.... but today, they are far more than just simple lunch wagons. they have style, they have themes, and best of all.... they have a plethora of food items that range from classic comfort food to gastronomic forward thinking cuisine. enter "Whatcha Fillin", one of the newest food trucks on the scene here in HI. their eats? a modern and tasty twist on "Imagawayaki", a popular street food in Japan. instead of the standard red bean filling, they substitute it with ingredients like cheese, beef, chocolate, and anything they can think of! when you look for them, look for this very cute styled truck! (click "read more" to see the rest of the entry) their menu consists of sweet items, as well as savory, and a selection of different flavored french fries. FRENCH KISS - consists of gooey Gruyere cheese, diced ham pieces, and caramelized onions. its rich without being overwhelming. BEEF CAKE - soft chunks of teriyaki beef and mayo, kind of like a teri beef sandwich, but a little sweeter.... almost a breakfast type food considering the meat and sweet waffle texture. GET A SHROOM - mushrooms, orzo, and parmigiano reggiano. it is definitely the most different as far as texture goes. it almost seems more "hearty" because not everything is a soft ingredient, so there is more to chew. NUTS ABOUT YOU - A dessert "waffle cake" containing bananas, nuts and nutella. after hearing those ingredients.... how can you go wrong? this one is delicious. CREAM - this was by far my favorite one.... creamy custard. so smooth, so decadent, so so so good...... BUFFALO FRIES - not too spicy, fresh fried, and plentiful! i really want to try everything they've got to offer.
so where do you find them? they're currently running around at events such as Eat The Street and Honolulu Night Market, but if you can't go to those, you can pretty much always find them on Kapahulu street during the early evenings. check them out!! ********************************************** Whatcha Fillin website: http://www.whatchafillin.com/ 755 Kapahulu Ave Honolulu County, HI 96816
